Welcome to my website. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with a special interest in Clinical Health Psychology.  I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and am a registered supervisor. I have worked for the last 20 years in the NHS, charitable sector, in private practice and as a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Counselling Psychology.

My consulting rooms are at the Centennial Medical Care, Elstree, Herts (WD6 3FG) and at Pages Lane, Muswell Hill, London (N10)

I work with:

– Clients (adults) experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, and interpersonal relationship issues.

– Clients who are experiencing chronic and acute physical health related psychological difficulties. I have a special interest in working with people affected by cancer

– Counselling psychology trainees and post qualified psychologists for supervision and personal therapy. I also offer supervision for allied health professionals.

I have experience in working with clients who present with depression, anxiety and relational difficulties. My main interest is in the psychological aspects and management of chronic and acute illness, such as, cardiology, diabetes (treatment compliance), pain, MS, fibromyalgia, dermatology, and women’s health. I also work withother physical health related issues including health anxiety and medically unexplained symptoms (MUS).

I have a special interest in psychological therapy for cancer. My approach to cancer therapy includes support with the impact of diagnosis and treatment, managing change in personal and work relationships, and body image. I provide support for family members with concerns about cancer, including bereavement in end of life care. In cases of remission, with a focus on improving quality of life, I help clients navigate through the adjustment process post treatment.

As an academic I have lectured on undergraduate and post-graduate Psychology programmes. I was also the Programme Leader for a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.  My time in academia enabled me to fully understand the complex demands and responsibilities of demanding job roles and how complex job roles can lead to increased anxiety, stress, and depression. I offer support for clients who are experiencing work related difficulties, and with returning to work after a period of sick leave.

My Approach to Therapy

At certain times in life we may experience confusion, lack of meaning, loss of purpose and conflict. This may present as depression and anxiety which may occur during periods of ill health, loss, trauma and transition, or equally during times of positive change. I aim to help you develop insight into what might be holding you back in life and equip you with skills to make effective and empowering life choices. I offer an approachable, open, collaborative and flexible style of working and value the importance of developing a trusting therapeutic relationship. I offer short and long-term therapy contracts depending on need. In the initial session we will explore your concerns, motivations and goals and discuss if therapy with me will be appropriate for you.

As a clinician and academic, I have a commitment to evidence-based approaches in psychology and psychotherapy. My overall therapeutic style is integrative. I primarily work within a Cognitive Therapy framework, whilst recognising the role of psychodynamic relational perspectives and other psychological theories where relevant and useful. What this means is that each therapeutic contract is designed to meet your individual needs and preferred style. My philosophy is complemented by third wave Cognitive Therapy ideas, namely mindfulness and compassion focussed approaches.
