My Approach to Therapy

At certain times in life we may experience confusion, lack of meaning, loss of purpose and conflict. This may present as depression and anxiety which may occur during periods of ill health, loss, trauma and transition, or equally during times of positive change. I aim to help you develop insight into what might be holding you back in life and equip you with skills to make effective and empowering life choices. I offer an approachable, open, collaborative and flexible style of working and value the importance of developing a trusting therapeutic relationship. I offer short and long-term therapy contracts depending on need. In the initial session we will explore your concerns, motivations and goals and discuss if therapy with me will be appropriate for you.

As a clinician and academic, I have a commitment to evidence-based approaches in psychology and psychotherapy. My overall therapeutic style is integrative. I primarily work within a Cognitive Therapy framework, whilst recognising the role of psychodynamic relational perspectives and other psychological theories where relevant and useful. What this means is that each therapeutic contract is designed to meet your individual needs and preferred style. My philosophy is complemented by third wave Cognitive Therapy ideas, namely mindfulness and compassion focussed approaches.
